HOME MARKETS AND MAIN STREET KENT TO HOST FIRST ANNUAL INTERNATIONAL FESTIVAL – September 17

KENT, Ohio – Students and residents of the city of Kent will have a chance to experience new countries and cultures from the comforts of downtown Kent.

Visitors are encouraged to dress in clothing that represents their native countries. There will be games, food and prizes. Vendors will be lined up and offering internationally themed products as well as prepared food.

Downtown businesses will showcase flags from various countries in their windows, in an effort to acknowledge the diversity of the city of Kent.

Acorn Alley will house a tent that will feature international beer and wine. There will also be performances from a range of cultures, as well as free giveaways for children. This event will definitely have something for everyone. Anyone interested in being a performer or vendor is asked to please email the address below for application details.

Established in 2010, International HOME Markets is a student owned and operated business that reunites students from faraway lands with the comforts of home, while introducing other students to new and exciting food and products. The store is located at 154 East Main Street Suite D in Kent, Ohio.

Main Street Kent is a non-profit organization that is committed to revitalizing downtown Kent, Ohio. It was founded in 2006. Their offices are located at 138 E. Main Street, Suite 201B.

Mae Ploy Sweet Chilli Sauce

MAE PLOY SWEET CHILI SAUCE 32OZ
This delicious mild sweet chilli sauce is perfect for all ages. It is an ideal dipping sauce with spring rolls, dim sum, fish cakes, nuggets, and curry puff.Serve as a condiment with BBQ, roast chicken, beef, lamb or pork. Use as a spread in meat and salad roll or as ingredient for salad dressing.

Ingredients:Sugar, water, pickled red chilli, vinegar, garlic, salt, stabilizer: Xanthan gum (E415).

URAD DAAL RECIPE

URAD DAAL RECIPE

Ingredients of this recipe:

1 cup Urad(white) daal
1 Onion sliced
1 Tomato diced(optional)
1tsp Ginger grated
1-2 Green chilies chopped
Coriander leaves finely chopped
1tsp Cumin seeds (jeera)
2 bayleaves 2 cloves
1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
Salt to taste
A pinch of Garam masala
Red chili powder to taste
2tbsp oil
1tsp lemon juice

Method to make this recipe:

Clean and wash the daal properly. Soak it in water for 10-15 minutes.
Boil it in 5 cups of water. Boil till it becomes soft. It should not become pasty. Remove the water and keep aside.
Heat oil in a kadhai and add cloves, bayleaves and cumin seeds, allow to splutter.
Now add ginger, onion and green chili and stir-fry till golden brown.
Add tomato (if using) and fry till it softens. Add all dry masalas (turmericpowder, chili powder, salt) and fry for a moment.
Now add daal and lemon juice, mix very gently.
Sprinkle garam masala and garnish with coriander.
Serve hot.

Hot Pepper Paste

INGREDIENTS: Wheat flour, malt syrup(malt, glucose, water), water, red pepper powder, salt, monosodium glutamate, potassidum sorbate as a preserve

Red pepper paste “Kochujang” is a Korean traditional fermented soybean-rice-red pepper powder paste. It has been reported that capsaicin in red pepper shows antiobestic effect and thus Red pepper paste “Kochujang” may have antiobestic effect. Commercial Red pepper paste “Kochujang” has rather prepared mainly with fermented wheat flour and grains, and red pepper powder.
Pepper is low in Saturated Fat and Sodium, and very low in Cholesterol. Pepper paste is also a good source of Vitamin C, Niacin, Vitamin B6, Iron and Potassium, and a very good source of Vitamin A and Riboflavin.
